Dorothea Berger administrative records, 1952-1966.

The Berger Papers (1952-1966) reveal that her role as the administrator for women's interests was much less powerful than her predecessor's. Berger, a counselor rather than a dean, usually reported through an associate dean, the Dean of Students to the Dean of Washington Square College. Her main duties were counseling in strictly non-academic areas, advising the Association of Women Students (formerly League of Women), the Committee of Junior Advisors and chairing the senior and junior tutors committee. She also advised the Student Council. These papers are a collection of administrative correspondence and memoranda collected while she was in the Dean's administration, as well as some clippings and photographs. They reveal various aspects of women students' life in the 1950's and 1960's, including the activities of Gamma Gamma Sigma and the University Christian Foundation. The collection also contains some of the files of Berger's predecessor, Dean Dorothy Arnold.
